About Stories With Pictures
Stories With Pictures is an independent magazine of great stories told with pictures. Every week we round up remarkable true stories, new books, comics and graphic novels, and one story we recommend reading; our articles tell true stories and help you choose what to read next; and our interactive pages let you play a true story as a case file, or make your own comic.
We never reproduce pages, panels or covers, and we always point readers to official, licensed ways to read. Our AI companion is labelled as AI every time.
What you’ll find here
Articles
Our articles are organised in five sections:
- True stories: Real events told in full: heists, rescues, mysteries and strange episodes from history, with the sources behind them and pictures that are free to show.
- Comics and graphic novels: Comics and graphic novels worth reading, from the classics to new releases: what they are about, who made them and where to read them legally.
- Manga: Manga series and creators: where to start, what the genres mean, how manga is made and published, and legal ways to read it.
- Making comics: How comics are made, from script and thumbnails to panel layout, lettering and the tools artists use, with steps you can try yourself.
- On screen: Comics and true stories adapted for film and television: what changed, what stayed and how the adaptation came about.
Every week we also publish a round-up edition. Browse everything on the articles page.

How we make it
Articles are written with the help of AI: Claude, made by Anthropic, researches and drafts each one from pages it opens and reads, and new articles list those pages as their sources. Every new article passes automated checks before it goes live: every listed source was opened, every picture is credited, it is not a near-copy of another of our articles, and it carries an AI note and any trademark notice it needs. No person reads each article before it is published, so we rely on readers to tell us about mistakes, and we correct confirmed ones. Our writers page and editorial policy explain more.
The interactive pages are designed and written by us. Where an AI companion or guide answers, it is labelled as AI, and its answers can contain mistakes.
Independent and unofficial
